Meet the Tutors Behind TMTD Academy
Our tutors each specialise in a small number of subjects rather than claiming to teach everything. Lebogang Chiloane teaches English Home Language and First Additional Language from Grade 8 to 12. Thulani Nkambule focuses on Mathematics and Matric Prep, including IEB. Tamara Nhlengethwa covers Afrikaans and isiZulu for Grade 8 to 12 learners. Brad Malone teaches JavaScript, HTML/CSS, and Web Development to school-age coders. Bulma Choi specialises in Physical Science for Grade 10 to 12, including IEB. Andrew Bernard teaches Accounting from Grade 10 through Matric.
This specialisation is deliberate. A tutor who focuses on one or two subjects builds a much deeper understanding of exactly where learners typically struggle, how each subject is examined, and which explanations actually land — compared to a generalist tutor spread across many unrelated subjects.
Subject Specialists, Not Generalists
When you enrol, we match you with the tutor whose specialism fits your child's subject and grade — not simply the next available tutor on a list. If your child needs help in more than one subject, they may work with more than one tutor, each an expert in their specific area, rather than a single tutor stretched across subjects outside their strength.
How Every TMTD Tutor Is Vetted
Before a tutor is approved to teach on TMTD Academy, they go through an interview, a subject knowledge assessment, and a reference check. Most TMTD tutors hold undergraduate or postgraduate degrees in their subject area, with many currently studying or having completed degrees at Wits, UJ, UP, UCT, or UNISA. We look for tutors who can demonstrate their subject knowledge under assessment, not just list it on an application.
If a tutor match isn't right for your child for any reason, we re-match at no extra cost — the goal is a tutor your child is genuinely comfortable learning from, not just any qualified applicant.
What Happens After You're Matched
Every session follows a tutor-prepared lesson plan, logged in our system so there's a clear record of what was covered. After each session, your child's tutor records notes, scores, and homework directly into the parent portal — visible to you the same day. If your child needs to change tutors, or if you've worked with a specific tutor before and want to continue with them, both are accommodated without extra cost or friction.
